–16-year-old driver wraps up 2nd place in 2018 Bojangles Summer Shootout —

(Denver, NC) August 3, 2018: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Talented young driver Gracie Trotter spent most of July competing in the Legends Semi-Pro division in her #11 Joe Ryan Race Cars machine. The month began on the highest of notes, with fireworks both literal and figurative as she secured her first career Semi-Pro win in Round 5 of the Bojangles Summer Shootout on July 3rd.

Round 6, on July 10th, resulted in another podium finish, as Gracie fought her way up from her 7th place start to capture third place. The following Saturday, she ran the Legends event at Tri County Motor Speedway, which she said “became her favorite track; it was so much fun!” Despite a broken trailing arm mount in her first practice, and having never seen the track before, she was able to rebound to finish in third place, completing the podium sweep for Joe Ryan Race Cars as her teammates finished in first and second.

Round 7 of the Summer Shootout was her lowest finish of the month, a 4th place,  and inclement weather forced the postponement and eventual cancellation of Round 8.

One of only three female drivers in the Semi-Pro division for the Shootout, Gracie entered the final two rounds July 30 and 31 atop the Summer Shootout points standings, with the nearest female driver in 17th position.  A podium finish on Monday night kept her up by 2 points entering the final round, but Tuesday didn’t go exactly as planned, and Gracie finished in third place for round 10, dropping her out of the championship lead to a 2nd place finish with 363 points, behind Conner Mosack’s 365.

After round 10, a disappointed Gracie shared her thoughts on an emotional night.  “Tonight was super heartbreaking because I thought I had the championship locked down. I was actually the fastest car out there by .2 (seconds), so I found the right line and we were digging up through there…I was ready to do anything I could to win the championship.”

She thought she had a chance to capture the lead at the end, remembering “I got so close, but there at the end a lapped car got in my way and I just couldn’t catch back up to Conner….I thought I had it there at the end.  (On) the last lap I tried to go low but it was too wet and I couldn’t get it. It sucks that it ended that way, but I’ve had a good season so far.”

Crew Chief Joe Ryan Osborne gave her a great car, despite the challenge that the evening’s weather provided.  “That was probably the most stressful three hours of my whole life,” Osborne said after the race. “Coming in tonight leading the points by two…along with the weather in the area, and the rain, no rain, we switched probably three times from rain tires, to no rain tires, but I think we made the right call to put the rain tires on…. We got to the front, and we were running the field down, then a lapped car kinda got in our way, and pushed us up the track, and we didn’t have enough time to get back to ‘em.”

Osborne knows that this is has been a great stepping stone for Gracie, despite finishing in second place. “We had a championship car and driver, and she did a great job all season, not wrecking and being consistent with her finishes.”

Gracie is proud of her 2nd place finish in the Shootout and is now looking forward to spending more time in her #2 TRD/Calico Coatings Super Late Model. She’s behind the wheel this weekend in the “Throwback 276” at Hickory Motor Speedway, her second CARS Tour start of 2018. The event goes green at 8 PM ET on Saturday, August 4.
