–16-year-old driver scores first win of 2018 Summer Shootout–
(Denver, NC) July 7, 2018: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Emerging young driver Gracie Trotter made it to victory lane on Tuesday night, July 3, at Charlotte Motor Speedway in the fifth round of the Bojangles Summer Shootout. It’s her first win in the Shootout’s Legends Semi-Pro division, and it was her sweetest win yet. It followed her Young Lions win in round one of the 2017 Shootout by about a year.
One of only three female drivers in a packed field of 26, Gracie battled her way from a fifth-place start, showing she’s not afraid to be aggressive en route to this first victory. She survived a tight battle with Sammy Smith take the lead for good with 7 to go.
With the amount of crashes she had to avoid, and the way she fought back after 8 cautions, “This was the most exciting win I’ve ever had,” said Gracie. “There was a great crowd, and when I got out of the car, I looked up in the stands and everyone was on their feet cheering…it was awesome. Builds our confidence so much.”
The drivers also enjoyed time for fan interaction during the intermission, and Gracie made many young fans happy by posing for photos and autographing hero cards. “I met a lot of little kids… there was one little girl who told me her name was Gracie, too. I barely looked up (from signing) the whole time!” remembered Gracie.
Gracie’s behind the wheel again this Tuesday, July 9, for round six of the Shootout, and she is not content with this one win. “I’m looking for a repeat,” Gracie said. She’s grateful to Joe Ryan Osborne, her Legends crew chief, for his dedication to helping her get this first Semi Pro win. “We’ve been wanting it so bad for so long… this makes me hungry for more!”
In addition to the Summer Shootout at CMS, Gracie is also getting ready for her next appearances in the #2 Super Late Model TRD/Calico Coatings Toyota Camry. They will be testing a few times in July to prep for Gracie’s August races, the CARS Tour Throwback 276 at Hickory Motor Speedway on the 4th, and the PASS South Davenport Energy 150 at South Boston Speedway on the 11th.
