NEWS FROM GRACIE TROTTER RACING
ROOKIE DRIVER TO MAKE 4TH PASS SOUTH START IN DAVENPORT ENERGY 150
(Denver, NC) August 7, 2018 (for immediate release):
Rookie Super Late Model driver Gracie Trotter called last Saturday’s Throwback 276 CARS Response Energy Tour race at Hickory Motor Speedway (NC) a “learning experience.” In a packed field of 26, in front of a large, enthusiastic crowd, Gracie started in 18th position, and finished 15th as she managed to avoid trouble in a race that saw 11 drivers fail to finish. “It was an awesome atmosphere,” Gracie reported. “It felt like short track racing was coming back alive, the way it used to be.”
Gracie continues her full Super Late Model schedule with the PASS South Davenport Energy 150 on Saturday, August 11 from South Boston (VA) Speedway. “We’ve tested at SoBo twice so far, and I really like it,” said Gracie. “We’ve worked on a lot of things for the car and myself to get faster and I feel pretty good going into it.”
Ahead of the race at Hickory, veteran crew chief and team manager Bond Suss had this to say about his young driver: “Gracie’s still learning how to deal with a lot more power from the new engine, but it’s an important part of her learning curve. She’s still trying to find the limits.” Gracie agreed, saying that adjusting to the new motor will remain a focus heading into South Boston. “It’s a lot different from the crate motor…I had to get rid of all my habits that I had with that motor.”
Gracie is proud of the way she’s communicating with Suss. “I really feel like I’ve improved a lot on my feedback to the crew chief,” she said. Suss concurred, saying “She pays close attention, studies her data hard, and she’s consistent. And she always brings the car back in one piece, which is something a lot of young drivers don’t do.”
This will be the high school junior’s fourth PASS Tour start of 2018. Gracie’s looking to improve on her 6th place finish, highest of the season, in her first PASS start of 2018 in the RGS Products 125 at Caraway Motor Speedway on March 18.
In her most recent PASS South race, the Old Glory 125 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 25th, she raced her way to 11th at the finish, on the lead lap. Gracie is currently 7th in the PASS South points standings.
Gracie will be looking for another strong finish in Saturday night’s 150-lap main event. Qualifying begins at 5 PM ET, and the Davenport Energy 150 goes green at approximately 7 PM ET. Follow along on race-monitor.com or in the Race Monitor app.
